The focus of this article will be Podcasts provided by Apple, they are free and readily available for iPhone, iPad, Laptops and PC’s.
Podcasts, maybe you’ve heard about them, maybe seen them talked about online and TV. But what are they and why would you want to use them.
First, Podcasts, the Wikipedia description…
“A podcast or generically netcast, is an episodic series of digital audio or video files which a user can download and listen to. It is often available for subscription, so that new episodes are automatically downloaded via web syndication to the user’s own local computer, mobile application, or portable media player“
From the Apple website,
“Podcasts are episodes of a program available on the Internet. Podcasts are usually original audio or video recordings, but can also be recorded broadcasts of a television or radio program, a lecture, a performance, or other event”
So, where do you get Podcasts. As stated for the purpose of this article, Apple Podcasts, which are free, can be obtained easily through ITunes on your Laptop or PC and direct through the Podcast icon on your IPhone or IPad.
How to access theses Podcasts, let’s start with ITunes on your PC or Laptop. I have included a number of pics to provide a walk through on accessing and playing Podcasts.
Open ITunes and change the “Music” drop down to Podcasts. This is located near the top of the ITunes page, left side.
You will now see a listing of popular, new, trending, etc Podcasts. I have selected an Ellen Podcast for this article. On the screen to the right and down from the Ellen pic is a number of selections, simply pick one and hit the play arrow.
The Ellen Podcast will start playing through your headphones or device speakers, you will see the progress bar at the top of the page. If you want to turn off, pause, rewind or fast forward these buttons are also located at the top of the screen.
Podcasts are also available in Video form. You will see a selection row near the top page in ITunes. Select Video.
As you can see I selected “The Most Dangerous Town on the Internet”. Click the “Play” arrow to the left.
Next, Podcasts on your IPhone or IPad.
On the device screen, select the Podcast icon.
Next you will see a number of selection screens, navigate through them.
The Podcast selection is pretty straight forward. The “Browse” tab is very helpful, I would start there. As above find a Podcast, plug in your ear phones and play. Don’t forget, if you find something you like, hit subscribe!!!
